Our Tests
To improve or maintain fitness and health, it is important to measure each of the five
components.
PacerThe Pacer Test is the measurement we use to show improvement in Cardiorespiratory Endurance
Cardiorespiratory endurance is the ability of the heart and lungs to supply enough oxygen to the body during long periods of physical activity. Like the engine of a car, the heart gives the body power to run long distances. Distance measurements such as the Pacer are often used to determine the strength of the heart. Muscles demand oxygen to produce energy to continue to run. The heart is the muscle that delivers oxygen to the rest of the body. During the Pacer, when a person slows down, it is because his/her muscles are not receiving enough oxygen from the heart. A stronger heart allows a person to run faster for longer distances. When running the Pacer, it is important to run at a comfortable speed. This is called pacing. |
Curl UpsThe Curl Up Test is the measurement we use to show improvement in Muscular Endurance.
Muscular endurance is the ability of muscles to work over a long period of time without becoming tired. Being able to keep muscles working without having to stop and rest is important for everyone. The one minute curl-up measurement is used to measure muscular endurance. One student does as many curl-ups as possible in one minute while another student holds his/her feet. This measurement determines the amount of muscular endurance in the abdominals and hips. The results of improved muscular endurance are enjoyment of being active and a higher level of performance. |
Push UpsThe Push Up Test is the measurement we use to show improvement in Muscular Strength.
Muscular strength is the ability of a muscle or muscles to push or pull with its total force. Strength is a part of every movement. A measure of muscular strength is the push-up. This is done by performing as many right angle push-ups as possible. By improving muscular strength every physical activity becomes easier. |
Sit and ReachThe Sit and Reach Test is the measurement we use to show improvement in Flexibility.
Flexibility is the muscles’ ability to move a joint through a full range of motion. A common way to measure flexibility is the sit and reach measurement. This measurement is done using a box designed to determine how far the body will stretch forward at the waist. The sit and reach measures flexibility of the hamstrings and lower back. Maintaining healthy levels of flexibility reduces the risk of injuries and benefits performance in all physical skills. |
Height & WeightHeight and Weight are the measurements we use to show Body Composition.
The body is made of bones, muscles, organs and fat. Body composition is the difference between fat-free mass and fat mass. Fat-free mass is the combined weight of the bones, muscles and organs. Fat mass is the total weight of fat stored in the body. A healthy body is the correct balance of fat-free mass to fat mass. Measuring height and weight helps to monitor the body’s natural changes during growth, which will help in understanding body composition. Eating a healthy diet and having a life full of activities will help maintain a healthy body composition. |
